Ramos Pinto 30 Year Old Tawny

28 January 2009 One Comment

ram_30_yaer_old_tawny_50clTaken from aged tawny wines from all their estates, this wine is expertly blended to show off the amazing almond / spice / wood flavours that tawny is famous for. There is very little fruit to hide any of the subtle nuances. I find the most amazing factor of the wine is the lack of overpowering spirity flavour which can be experienced in other ports of a similar age.

Expensive, as it rightly should be as it contains a large proportion of the rarest wines Ramos Pinto posses, which is why we only stock the slightly more sensible 50cl gift size.

It is a fantastic experience to compare this with other, younger tawny from Ramos as you really get a feel for the wood ageing process.

I wouldn’t match this with food, rather match it with like minded wine loving friends to discuss the depth of flavours at the beginning or end of the meal.

What can I say , this was truly one of the best ports i’ve ever let the palet taste, end of the night bed heaven after a hearty meal but I could have sat all night enjoying such quality.
